Biography

“Lindsay is an inspiring and vibrant singer-songwriter who brings heart and soul into her songs.  Her rich voice, at times haunting, soars and surges with the ups and downs of a girl’s life in full pursuit of what it means to be alive.” Laurie Gough, Author

The first song Lindsay Ferguson ever publicly performed was during her Grade 8 talent show. She sang “Tomorrow” from the musical ‘Annie.’ Lindsay has come a long way since then… going on to win a colouring contest, a “Nano iPod”, an award for Ottawa’s “Best New Artist” of 2008, a Canada Council for the Arts Songwriting Grant in 2009 and enough money in 2010 through NewCap Radio’s “The Big Money Shot” to record her second full length album “Monkeys Under Stars” released in June 2011.

Lindsay has accomplished a lot, from touring said record across Canada in her Dodge 1992 to having tea with Bono, from being the hired Songstress on a seven day white-water rafting trip in The Canadian Rockies to sharing the stage with Tegan & Sara, Steve Earle, Kathleen Edwards and other musical greats like Ron Sexsmith.

She was born in Bermuda, raised in Prince Edward County, Ontario and has lived in various places… including the base of the Swiss Alps, or take that time she used to live on the Sea in the West of Ireland. St. John’s Newfoundland was the eventual spot where Lindsay’s music was truly born, it gave her that first passion-inspired musical kiss. Lindsay got her “musical start” late. Before the internet, the chances of getting your music heard were limited, and there was no reality television, so most parents didn’t think a music career was possible. Instead, Lindsay spent a lot of time in her early life, singing along to the radio and dreaming of being on stage, but ultimately preparing for such things as University with hopes of getting a “real” job.  However, her musical soul always sang louder.

Lindsay is now “living the dream” on stages from Canada to Europe and back again and is now in her fourth year of living as a full time music maker. She has lived in the East end of Toronto, to the West end of Quebec, from the middle of Switzerland to the middle of St. John’s, sharing her music all the while.

Her music is a mix of Feist meets Nina Simone meets Joni, but you will find elements of Kate Bush, Annie Lennox and Etta James as well. Sometimes people come up to her after a show and they have no words at all, just a shrug and a set of bright eyes that speak loud enough to carry her through to the next place, wherever that may be.

Lindsay will continue on in this crazy world of music, be it showcasing at various music conferences (Canadian Music Week, North by North East, etc.) sharing her music via various television and radio programs (CBC, CTV, etc.) music festivals (St.John’s Folk Festival, Ottawa Bluesfest, Halifaxs’ In the Dead of Winter, etc.) or those romantic starry starry night campfire rounds, singing lazily by the flames, the music flows for all of us.
